چکیده
We design a protocol for two autonomous negotiating agents to incorporate Dung-style argumentation into an ongoing bargaining dialogue. Previous approaches considered bargaining and Dung-Style Argumentation as separated components, we show that intertwining these approaches increases the agents scope of action. In our framework the acceptance of an argument or attack uttered by self-interested agents is conditional on the acceptance by the negotiating partner. Our protocol thus enables autonomous agents to engage in a variety of human negotiation behaviours and thereby increase the agents capabilities to come to mutually satisfactory agreements.

A Comparative Study of Argumentation- and Proposal-Based Negotiation
Recently, argumentation-based negotiation has been proposed as an alternative to classical mechanism design. The main advantage of argumentation-based negotiation is that it allows agents to exchange complex justification positions rather than just simple proposals. Its proponents maintain that this property of argumentation protocols can lead to faster and beneficial agreements when used for c...
متن کاملA formal analysis of the role of argumentation in negotiation dialogues
This paper proposes an abstract framework for argumentation-based negotiation in which the impact of exchanging arguments on agents’ theories is formally described, the different types of solutions in negotiation are investigated, and the added value of argumentation in negotiation dialogues is analyzed. We study when, how and to which extent an exchange of arguments can be beneficial in negoti...

Negotiation is often described as the process by which agents come to a mutually acceptable agreement about some subject. We present a general model of contract-based negotiation and propose a logic programming-based argumentation framework to c...

متن کاملAdvances in Argumentation-Based Negotiation
Argumentation-based negotiation (ABN) is a prevailing approach for automated negotiation. It is based on the exchange of arguments that allow an agent to acquire additional information about the other agents and the particular circumstances of the negotiation, and can be used for attacking or justifying offers. This is an important element in resolving conflicts that very often are due to the a...
متن کاملExtending Contract Net Protocol for Arguing Agents
Negotiation is a technique through which two agents having conflicting interests reach an agreement that is beneficial for both of them. Argumentation-based negotiation is a better form of negotiation where one negotiating agent argues with another to justify its position and influences the other agent to follow it. This increases the likelihood and quality of agreement in a negotiation process...
